San Francisco Public Library branch libraries have evolved into community centers with resources that go way beyond books. Join us to discover what your local library has to offer with a tour of the Marina Branch Library.
This is a unique opportunity to get an in-depth presentation and tour with a librarian to find out the myriad resources available with a library card AND how to use them! This tour will cover the gamut from the basics to things you may not have imagined were available. Some of the things we'll cover include:
- how to use the online library catalog at home or at the library,
- how to find or reserve a books or other media,
- how to confidently use the self checkout system,
- examples of things the librarian at the reference desk can help you with,
- the types of things you can read, view or check out from a library, including CDs, large print books, magazines, newspapers, audio books, videos (DVD, Blu-Ray or streaming on your digital device),
- free resources like free museum passes, Internet access on library computers, and ability to scan, print and fax things for free,
- how to access eBooks and streaming movies from home on your smartphone, tablet, computer or Kindle,
- how to find out about upcoming library branch events (e.g., join NEXT Village at the Golden Gate Valley Branch Library for our monthly Book Exchange on May 17, or we'll be at the Marina Branch on 7/13 where you can make your own bath bomb (aka bath fizzer)).
While you may think you know your library, on this in-depth tour, you're bound to discover things you weren't aware you could do through your local library!
Optional: Bring your San Francisco Public Library Card if you have one. If you don't have a library card or can't find it, bring a photo ID and the friendly staff can help you replace or sign up for a library card, if you wish.
